Caden Gibbons made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.
In other batting news, Ryan Hanlon was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Preston Farabaugh, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.
Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, Tyrone's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell just short of Chestnut Ridge by a score of 7-6.
L Hamer was cooking despite his team's loss, firing off two home runs while going 2-for-4. Jon Stroup was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.
Penn Cambria's win was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Tyrone, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-5.
Everything went Penn Cambria's way against Tyrone in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Penn Cambria made off with a 7-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
