The Croatan Cougars will head out on the road to take on the Richlands Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
After a string of three wins, Croatan's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell 65-54 to White Oak.
Despite the loss, Croatan had strong showings from Trey Jones, who scored 19 points along with five rebounds and five steals, and Jaden Hilliard, who scored 20 points along with six steals. Hilliard has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last ten times he's played. Matthew Woody was another key contributor, scoring two points along with six rebounds and two blocks.
Meanwhile, Richlands' recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fifth straight defeat. They suffered a rough 72-50 defeat at the hands of Swansboro. While losing is never fun, Richlands can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 447th, while Swansboro is ranked 37th).
Croatan's loss dropped their record down to 17-5. As for Richlands, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-14.
Croatan strolled past Richlands in their previous matchup two weeks ago by a score of 69-54. The rematch might be a little tougher for Croatan since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
