Baseball Recap: Watauga's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Watauga can bid farewell to their six-game losing streak thanks to their game on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out the Hibriten Panthers 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Pioneers have posted since April 30, 2024.

Everett Gryder spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up seven Ks. Watauga is 2-1 when Gryder allowstwo or fewer earned runs, but 2-6 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Evan Burroughs, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3. Another player making a difference was JT Cook, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Watauga's victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 4-7. As for Hibriten, their loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 8-3.
