It was a good run, but the Groves Rebels unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Saturday. They took a 64-56 hit to the loss column at the hands of Beach. Groves was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Beach apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played last Wednesday.
Groves' loss came despite strong showings from Sidney Flaggs and Tyrone Chisholm. Flaggs scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and three steals, while Chisholm scored 16 points along with three steals. Flaggs is crushing the point category: he's posted at least 15 every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Xavier Kohn, who scored four points along with three steals.
Even though they lost, Groves smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Beach only pulled down ten offensive rebounds.
It was another big night for James Tisby, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and two steals for Beach. Jayden Newton was another key contributor, scoring 18 points along with five rebounds.
Groves now has a losing record at 11-12. As for Beach, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-15.
Groves is on the road again on Tuesday and plays Savannah Christian at 7:30 p.m. on February 6th. Groves is facing Savannah Christian at the right time seeing as Savannah Christian is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Beach, they and Long County will face off at 7:30 p.m. on February 6th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Beach will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Georgia Rankings (they are ranked 287th, while Long County is ranked 119th).
