Basketball Game Preview: GVCS Broadfording Lions vs. Heritage Academy Eagles

GVCS Broadfording and Heritage Academy are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2018, but not for long. The GVCS Broadfording Lions will venture away from home to challenge the Heritage Academy Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with GVCS Broadfording sitting on six straight victories and Heritage Academy on eight.

GVCS Broadfording is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They really took it to Carroll Christian for the full four quarters, racking up a 90-27 win. The matchup was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Lions had established a 56 point advantage.

GVCS Broadfording's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Camari White led the charge by going 8 of 12 on his way to 21 points and six boards. Those six rebounds gave White a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Fernando Garcia, who went 6 for 12 en route to 15 points and six steals.

GVCS Broadfording was working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, you can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Heritage Academy's strategy against New Life Christian on Thursday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Heritage Academy blew New Life Christian out of the water with a 74-34 final score. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 70th, while New Life Christian are ranked 267th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Heritage Academy's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-1. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 34.2 points. As for GVCS Broadfording, their win bumped their record up to 12-6.

GVCS Broadfording lost to Heritage Academy on the road by a decisive 79-63 margin when the teams last played on January 7th. Can GVCS Broadfording avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
