The Warren Central Warriors will head out on the road to challenge the Pike Red Devils at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Warren Central has given up an average of 9.3 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Monday just wasn't the day for Warren Central's offense. They lost 14-0 to Indianapolis Bishop Chatard on Monday. The Warriors haven't had much luck with the Trojans recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Warren Central saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jacob Vokes, who went 1-for-2 with one triple. That triple marked the first that Vokes has hit this season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Pike). They blew past Ben Davis 19-4 on Wednesday. The Red Devils might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by ten runs or more this season.
Lincoln Sigmund made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Pike let Rory Weaver and Jimquell Young, Jr run wild. Weaver got on base in four of his six plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Young, Jr went 3-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Weaver has become a key player for Pike: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 1-3 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Clinton Sims, Jr, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs.
Pike kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ben Davis only managed six hits.
Pike's record now sits at 5-3. As for Warren Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-6-1.
Tuesday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Warren Central has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .474. However, it's not like Pike struggles in that department as they've averaged .459. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Warren Central might still be hurting after the 12-4 loss they got from Pike in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Warriors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
