Granite Bay and Del Oro are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2021, but likely not for long. The Grizzlies will challenge the Golden Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The last six games Granite Bay has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
On Wednesday, Granite Bay wound up with the same score they had in their last game (2-1), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time. The loss continues a trend for them in their meetings with the Wildcats: they've now lost four in a row.
Granite Bay got a good showing from Paetynn Snobar, who tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, Snobar gave up only zero walks, the fewest she's had since back in May of 2024.
On the hitting side, Granite Bay saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Leilani Terrazas, who went 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run was Terrazas' first of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Del Oro). They were the clear victors by a 22-0 margin over Folsom on Wednesday. Considering the Golden Eagles have won eight contests by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Mikayla Finn looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Emma Johnson was a standout: she fired off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-3. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Abby Davidson was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
Del Oro was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .515. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .424 or higher in four consecutive matchups.
Del Oro pushed their record up to 15-1 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.3 runs over those games. As for Granite Bay, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Granite Bay has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Del Oro struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Granite Bay came out on top in a nail-biter against Del Oro in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, sneaking past 3-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Grizzlies since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
