Basketball Game Preview: Holmes Huskies vs. Stevens Falcons

The Holmes Huskies will challenge the Stevens Falcons at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Holmes is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54 points per game this season.

Holmes took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They couldn't have asked for a better start to 2025 than the 76-15 blowout they got against San Antonio Memorial. The Huskies have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine games by 20 points or more this season.

Holmes' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Domonique Edwards, who went 7 of 16 on her way to 17 points in addition to seven rebounds and six steals. That's the most steals Edwards has posted since back in November of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Dreanne Garcia, who almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine steals.

Holmes smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 30 offensive boards. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Stevens was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 17th straight defeat. They had to suffer through a 65-36 loss at the hands of Marshall. While losing is never fun, the Falcons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1268th, while the Rams are ranked 504th).

Holmes moved to 14-11 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Stevens, their loss dropped their record down to 1-22.

Everything came up roses for Holmes against Stevens in their previous meeting back in November of 2024, as the squad secured an 89-11 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Holmes since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
