Basketball Recap: Mccool Junction Piles Up the Points Against Elm Creek

It's playoff time, and McCool Junction had no trouble coming through when it counted. They claimed a resounding 65-34 victory over the Elm Creek Buffaloes. The Mustangs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten matches by 25 points or more this season.

Carson Mcdonald continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double with 22 points and ten boards. He has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last eight times he's played. Another player making a difference was Mapieu Kouchinin, who almost dropped a double-double with 16 points and nine rebounds.

McCool Junction was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Elm Creek only four assists.

Elm Creek's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Quin Oberg, who shot 47% from the field en route to 20 points and three steals. That was a full 58.8% of Elm Creek's points, marking the fourth time in a row Oberg has posted more than a third of the team's points. Blake Erickson was another key player, putting up seven points and seven boards.

McCool Junction is on a roll lately: they've won 16 of their last 18 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.7 points over those games. With the defeat, Elm Creek broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 21-5.

McCool Junction has already played their next contest, a 53-36 loss against Johnson-Brock on the 14th. Elm Creek does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
