Millington Central has gone 8-2 against Fayette Ware recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Trojans will challenge the Wildcats at 4:30 p.m.
Millington Central couldn't beat Tipton-Rosemark Academy on Saturday even though they stacked five runs on them in the fifth inning. The Trojans fell just short of the Rebels by a score of 8-7. The loss continues a trend for the Trojans in their meetings with the Rebels: they've now lost seven in a row.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Fayette Ware, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Germantown on Monday, sneaking past 13-12. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Wildcats have posted since April 1, 2025.
Caleb Smith made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off nine hits (and only one walk). Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Landon Holden, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since April 1st. Jon Doyle was another key player, going 3-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Fayette Ware was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .452. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matchups.
The win snapped Fayette Ware's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 7-10 record. As for Millington Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-20.
Millington Central couldn't quite finish off Fayette Ware in their previous meeting back in March and fell 21-19. Can the Trojans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
