It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Scales Mound Hornets ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They had just enough and edged Polo out 64-61. Given Scales Mound's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 202nd, while Polo is ranked 426th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Scales Mound to victory, but perhaps none more so than Thomas Hereau, who scored 22 points along with five rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Derrick Distler, who went 6 for 9 from beyond the arc en route to 22 points and 1 assist.
The victory makes it two in a row for Scales Mound and bumps their season record up to 16-5. As for Polo, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-8.
Scales Mound will head out on the road to take on River Ridge at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Polo, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Amboy at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
