Western is on a five-game streak of home losses, Iroquois a three-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change. The Western Warriors will take on the Iroquois Raiders at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
While Western couldn't quite beat Atherton on Tuesday, the two-point margin was a huge improvement compared to the 27-point loss they were dealt two weeks ago. Western fell just short of Atherton by a score of 30-28. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss Western has suffered yet this season.
Despite the defeat, Western got a solid performance out of Aubryonna Durrah, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 17 rebounds. Durrah is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of SaNyah Harrison, who scored two points along with ten rebounds and three steals.
Even though they lost, Western smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 26 offensive rebounds. This was only their tenth loss (out of 11 games) when they hit their own glass that hard.
Iroquois suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Saturday. They took a serious blow against Fern Creek, falling 63-33. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Iroquois in their matchups with Fern Creek: they've now lost eight in a row.
Western's loss dropped their record down to 1-13. As for Iroquois, their loss dropped their record down to 3-11.
Western took their win against Iroquois in their previous meeting back in February of 2023 by a conclusive 61-36. Does Western have another victory up their sleeve, or will Iroquois turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
