You're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter, and that's exactly how it played out for The Doherty Spartans on Thursday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew Northglenn out of the water with a 49-12 final score. The result was nothing new for Doherty, who have now won four matches by 23 points or more so far this season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Doherty to victory, but perhaps none more so than Leland Frescaz, who threw for 300 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 13.6 yards per attempt. Another player making a difference was Brian Valdez, who rushed for 105 yards and three touchdowns.
Doherty's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB five times. Leading the way was Logan Hutcheon and his two sacks.
Despite the loss, Northglenn still got an impressive performance from Josiah'ez Stevenson, who rushed for 153 yards on only 15 carries. Stevenson's longest rush was for an incredible 80 yards.
The win makes it two in a row for Doherty and bumps their season record up to 4-5. They've been dominating during the matchups in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 37 points. As for Northglenn, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-6.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Doherty will take on Overland at 7:00 p.m. on October 27th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Colorado (Overland is ranked 76th, while Doherty is ranked 77th). As for Northglenn, they will head out on the road to face off against Westminster at 7:00 p.m. on October 27th. Westminster knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matchups -- so hopefully Northglenn likes a good challenge.
