The Catskill Cats are taking a road trip to take on the Webutuck Warriors at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. Catskill has given up an average of 11.5 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Catskill fell victim to Taconic Hills and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They lost 13-0 to the Titans. The loss continues a trend for the Cats in their meetings with the Titans: they've now lost nine in a row.
Catskill saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ava Edmonds, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases.
Meanwhile, Webutuck was able to grind out a solid win over Housatonic-Lakeview on Thursday, taking the game 14-9. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Warriors.
Madison Krueger made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bella Milano, who went 3-for-4 with six RBI, one triple, and one run. That triple was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Aria Griskauskas, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Webutuck now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Catskill, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-10.
Friday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Catskill has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .455. However, it's not like Webutuck struggles in that department as they've averaged .469. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Catskill couldn't quite get it done against Webutuck in their previous matchup back in April as they fell 10-5. Can the Cats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
