Poth is 8-2 against Karnes City since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Poth Pirates will look to defend their home field against the Karnes City Badgers at 6:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Poth took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They blew past Nixon-Smiley 12-2. The win continues a trend for the Pirates in their matchups with the Mustangs: they've now won nine in a row.
Karlee Kroll spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on one hit.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jetta Jorden, who went 2-for-4 with five RBI, two doubles, and one run. Caitlyn Castillo was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Jorden wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Poth kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's a new trend for Poth: they were averaging 3.3 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 11.2.
Meanwhile, Karnes City can bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Tuesday. They came out on top against Stockdale by a score of 8-4.
Laila Garcia made a big impact no matter where she played. She tossed seven innings while giving up four earned runs off seven hits. Those hits marked the first that she allowed this season. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Mackenzie Clark was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four stolen bases, and three runs.
Poth's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-6. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Karnes City, their win bumped their record up to 7-4.
Tuesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Poth hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .353. However, it's not like Karnes City struggles in that department as they've averaged .434. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Poth's way against Karnes City when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Poth made off with an 11-1 victory. Does Poth have another victory up their sleeve, or will Karnes City turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
