The Duncan Wildkats will venture away from home to take on the Willcox Cowboys at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Duncan will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
Duncan made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Miami, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Wildkats put the hurt on the Vandals with a sharp 10-2 win on Friday. While the Wildkats didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Ethan Hernandez made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Hernandez was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season.
In other batting news, Taygan Jensen was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. Guy Riedhead was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.
Duncan kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Willcox posted their closest victory since March 7th on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past St. Augustine Catholic 4-2. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cowboys.
Willcox saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Anthony Morales, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Duncan pushed their record up to 6-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for Willcox, their record is now 6-9-1.
Willcox's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Duncan hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .325. It's a different story for Willcox, though, as they've only averaged .244. Will they be able to contain Duncan's hitters?
