Berkeley Springs and Spring Mills are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2015, but likely not for long. The Indians will venture away from home to square off against the Cardinals at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Berkeley Springs will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.
Berkeley Springs made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Oak Glen, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Indians were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Golden Bears on Saturday. The Indians' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Kyle Moore made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. He also put up a triple, which was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Berkeley Springs let Kyle Rankin and Shawn McCumbee run wild. Rankin scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-3, while McCumbee scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave Rankin a new career-high in RBI (two). Chase Stotler also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Berkeley Springs was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Spring Mills hadn't done well against Keyser recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Cardinals never let the Golden Tornado get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Cardinals, who have now won seven games by six runs or more so far this season.
Spring Mills also got a great performance from Jacob Cumley as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 13 over five innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Bryce Anders was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2. He is becoming a predictor of Spring Mills' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-3 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Aiden Eichelberger, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
The win made it two in a row for Spring Mills and bumps their season record up to 7-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 4 runs in those games. As for Berkeley Springs, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-14.
Berkeley Springs couldn't quite finish off Spring Mills in their previous meeting back in March of 2023 and fell 7-5. Can the Indians avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
