The Mead Mavericks will head out on the road to square off against the Lewis-Palmer Rangers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Mead will be strutting in after a victory while Lewis-Palmer will be coming in after a loss.
Lewis-Palmer will be up against a hot Mead team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. The Mavericks blew past Greeley West 55-6 on Friday. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Mavericks' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado football rankings (they are ranked 34th, while the Spartans are ranked 138th).
Ethan Elmore went supernova, rushing for 54 yards and two TDs on only five carries, while also throwing for 60 yards and one touchdown.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Mead was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 208 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 183 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Mead's defense and their three sacks. The team can thank two different players for their defensive prowess: Owen Noe and Caleb Fahlin, who each picked up 0.5 sacks apiece.
Meanwhile, Lewis-Palmer was just a hair shy of victory on Friday and fell 27-26 to Holy Family. The Rangers have struggled against the Tigers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Mead will have to contain Greg Moore as he made an impact in Lewis-Palmer's last game. He rushed for 141 yards and one score.
Lewis-Palmer's defeat dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Mead, their win bumped their record up to 3-0.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Mead has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 210.7 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Lewis-Palmer struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 278.8 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything came up roses for Mead against Lewis-Palmer in their previous matchup back in September of 2024, as the squad secured a 31-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mavericks since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
