Softball Recap: Fairborn Wins Going Away Against Springfield

Fairborn lost to Springfield back in April of 2016, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Tuesday. The Skyhawks blew past the Wildcats 12-4. That's two games straight that the Skyhawks have won by exactly eight runs.

Mak George and Kalleigh Offill made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, George tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Offill tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. At the plate, George went 3-for-5 with two doubles and two RBI, while Offill went 2-for-5 with three RBI and one triple. Those two doubles gave George a new career-high.

In other batting news, Lillee Walters was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted three or more hits the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Ali Ison, who went 2-for-4 with four runs, one double, and one RBI.

Fairborn kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 15 hits in seven consecutive contests.

Fairborn has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Springfield, they dropped their record down to 3-8 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Coming up, Fairborn will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Butler at 5:00 p.m. As for Springfield, they will head out to challenge Miamisburg at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Vikings have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.11 runs per game on average), something the Wildcats will no doubt try to take advantage of.
