Baseball Recap: Greenville H Wins Going Away Against Pickens

Greenville H lost to Pickens back in March, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Monday. The Hurricanes put the hurt on the Blue Flame with a sharp 10-3 win. Considering the Hurricanes have won eight matchups by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

JJ Nixon was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

In other batting news, Greenville H let Richard Jacobs III and Owen Giles run wild. Jacobs III went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run, while Giles scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. Jacobs III has become a key player for Greenville H: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three hits, but 8-9 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaleb Sepko, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.

Greenville H always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .525. They are 6-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Greenville H is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-9 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Pickens, their loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 5-13.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Greenville H will welcome Blacksburg at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Pickens, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Daniel at 6:30 p.m. The Blue Flame will need to watch out since the Lions have now posted at least ten runs in their last three games.
