Mattawan extended the longest winning streak in Southwestern Michigan - West this week by beating Portage Central, 35-34. The victory was the seventh in a row for the Wildcats.
Mattawan and the Mustangs played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with Mattawan eventually emerging with a 35-34 victory. Trevor Sweeney ran for 175 yards in the win.
Lakeshore's JOHNNY NATE and HAROLD WIGGINS have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. NATE has thrown for 1035 yards this season, while WIGGINS, a 6-foot-3 receiver, has 36 catches for 541 yards. Matt Stephens' team's Sweeney leads the league in rushing yards with 1071.
The top two teams in Southwestern Michigan - West will face off this week when first place Mattawan takes on second place Lakeshore. The Wildcats beat Portage Central last week, while the Lancers topped St. Joseph.
There should be lots of points scored when Mattawan and Lakeshore face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Wildcats comes in having scored 294 this season, while Denny Dock's team has scored 202. Mattawan scored 35 points last week as it defeated Brett Foerster's team.
