In what's become a running theme this season, the Leonardtown Raiders gave their fans yet another huge win on Monday. They breezed by Westlake at home to the tune of 61-16. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 28-6.
Leonardtown's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Eva Weller led the charge by scoring six points along with eight rebounds and seven blocks. Another player making a difference was Gretchen Fleck, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Despite the loss, Westlake saw an underclassman step up: Caila Alexander scored eight points.
Leonardtown is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. As for Westlake, they dropped their record down to 5-9 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road.
Leonardtown will take on Lackey at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Leonardtown is not getting complacent considering they own a much higher rank in Maryland (they are ranked 80th, while Lackey is ranked 201st). As for Westlake, they will head out on the road to face off against Great Mills at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Great Mills will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something Westlake surely won't give up without a fight.
