Baseball Game Preview: Roger Bacon Spartans vs. Purcell Marian Cavaliers

The Roger Bacon Spartans are taking a road trip to square off against the Purcell Marian Cavaliers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Having struggled with eight defeats in a row, Roger Bacon turned things around against Purcell Marian on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Cavaliers with a sharp 6-0 victory. The Spartans not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 24th (when they won 10-0).

The team relied heavily on Ben Powers, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of Roger Bacon's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 4-11 when he doesn't). Gus Hoffmann also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Roger Bacon hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Purcell Marian struck out ten times.

Purcell Marian dropped their record down to 5-14 with the loss, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Roger Bacon, their win bumped their record up to 7-12.
