York hasn't had much luck against South Pointe recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The York Cougars will be playing in front of their home fans against the South Pointe Stallions at 7:30 p.m.
York is headed into Thursday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 12th straight game on Monday. They received a blow as they fell 66-49 to A.C. Flora. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 245th, while the Falcons are ranked 81st).
York's defeat came about despite a quality game from Christian Smith, who went 5 for 9 on his way to 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Zan Walling, who posted four points and six rebounds.
Meanwhile, South Pointe entered their tilt with Camden on Wednesday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They walked away with a 69-61 victory over the Bulldogs.
York better keep an eye on Treven Raymon. He was instrumental in South Pointe's win, going 10 of 16 on his way to 32 points and seven rebounds. With that strong performance, Raymon is now averaging an impressive 15.1 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Jackson Wilson, who posted ten points.
South Pointe smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 14 consecutive matchups.
York's loss dropped their record down to 1-14. As for South Pointe, they pushed their record up to 10-4 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: York has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 27.7 boards per game. However, it's not like South Pointe struggles in that department as they've been averaging 35.3 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
