Two dominant guards in Lauren Guyer and Kaylee Goodpaster are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Maclay Marauders will take on the North Bay Haven Academy Buccaneers at 4:15 p.m. on Saturday. Maclay is coming into the game hot, having won their last three games.
Last Thursday, Maclay didn't have too much trouble with St. John Paul II as they won 43-27.
Guyer continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, putting up 20 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. That makes it eight consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Maclay's points. Another player making a difference was Zoie Horton, who posted seven points and 12 boards.
Maclay smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 24 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in December of 2023.
Meanwhile, you're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter, and that's exactly how it played out for North Bay Haven Academy on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew Franklin County out of the water with a 60-25 final score. With the Buccaneers ahead 33-13 at the half, the match was all but over already.
Maclay better keep an eye on Goodpaster. She was instrumental in North Bay Haven Academy's win, going 12 of 23 en route to 31 points in addition to seven steals and six rebounds. That makes it six consecutive games in which Goodpaster has scored at least a third of North Bay Haven Academy's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lauren Morrell, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 12 boards.
Maclay's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-6. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 22.3 points per game. As for North Bay Haven Academy, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-8.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Maclay has been crashing the rebounds this season, having averaged 31.7 boards per game. However, it's not like North Bay Haven Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 35.2 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Maclay came up short against North Bay Haven Academy when the teams last played back in February of 2024, falling 35-29. Can Maclay avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
