Baseball Recap: Friday's Win Is Memphis Central's Tenth in Last 11 Outings

Memphis Central had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the eight-run drubbing they dealt Overton on Friday. The Warriors blew past the Wolverines 13-5. The Warriors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by seven runs or more this season.

Joshua Thurmon made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

In other pitching news, Memphis Central got a great performance from Evan Nelson as he tossed six innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits.

Back at the plate, Memphis Central let Jayden Cole and Joshua Hollowell run wild. Cole scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Hollowell scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits Hollowell has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Patrick Ryan, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-4.

Memphis Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Overton only managed six hits.

Memphis Central has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.1 runs over those games. As for Overton, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 10-4-1 record.

Coming up, Memphis Central will square off against Memphis East at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Warriors are facing the Mustangs at the right time seeing as the Mustangs are stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Overton, they will challenge Kingsbury at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
