The Perkins Pirates will head out to square off against the South Central Trojans at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Perkins is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.
Perkins managed to slip by Norwalk the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Pirates lost 7-0 to the Truckers on Thursday. The contest marked the first time this year in which the Pirates were not able to get on the board.
Perkins got a good showing from Maycee Bohn, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask South Central). They put the hurt on Mansfield Christian with a sharp 18-5 win on Thursday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Trojans considering their one-run performance the game before.
Viola Culler made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Culler was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Sydnee Middaugh was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Zaida Myers, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, five runs, and one triple.
South Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.
Perkins' loss dropped their record down to 5-7. As for South Central, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-9.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Perkins has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like South Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
