The Sweeny Bulldogs fought the good fight in their overtime contest against the Bay City Blackcats on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Blackcats by a score of 45-42. Sweeny has struggled against the Blackcats recently, as their contest on Tuesday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Sweeny lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Kay'ana Britton, who scored six points along with six steals. Britton is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 11 games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma McCurdy, who scored eight points.
Khylee Perry was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 30 points and 12 rebounds for Bay City. That makes it six consecutive games in which Perry has scored at least a third of Bay City's points. Another player making a difference was Madison Thrift, who scored ten points along with six steals.
Sweeny's loss dropped their record down to 19-10. As for Bay City, the victory got them back to even at 15-15.
Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing La Marque the next time they take the court. Sweeny will head out to face the Cougars at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, while the Blackcats will host them at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
