The Fort Hancock Mustangs had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22.8 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Tuesday. They walked away with a 42-30 victory over Patterson Institute. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Fort Hancock also won the last time the pair played back in November of 2022.
Alessandra Jimenez was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 13 games she's played. Another player making a difference was Marisol Diaz, who scored eight points along with nine rebounds and six steals.
Fort Hancock has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. As for Patterson Institute, their loss dropped their record down to 3-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fort Hancock on the road again on Friday and play against Chaparral at 5:00 p.m. on January 12th. Chaparral presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Fort Hancock in their respective states (Chaparral is ranked 113th in New Mexico, while Fort Hancock is ranked 782nd in Texas). Patterson Institute will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Austin at 6:00 p.m. on January 26th.
