Antonito and Cotopaxi are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2016, but not for long. The Antonito Trojans will head out on the road to face off against the Cotopaxi Pirates at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Antonito focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Saturday.
Antonito's recent rough patch got a bit rougher after their third straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 58-14 loss at the hands of Creede. Antonito was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 27-4.
Zanita Garcia was Antonito's leading scorer, having posted seven points.
Luz Elena Parra held things down on the boards with five rebounds. Parra took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with two assists.
Meanwhile, it may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Cotopaxi ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They had just enough and edged South Park out 43-41. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Cotopaxi.
The losses dropped Antonito to 0-3 and Creede to 1-3.
Antonito came up short against Cotopaxi in their previous meeting back in December of 2022, falling 31-19. Can Antonito avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
