Basketball Recap: Ariana Swain Key Part of a Team Effort in Fighting Irish Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against West Ridge, Knoxville Catholic was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They walked away with a 57-49 victory over the Chattanooga Christian Chargers. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Fighting Irish as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Knoxville Catholic's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ariana Swain led the charge by going 7 of 15 en route to 21 points and five steals. The dominant performance gave Swain a new career-high in steals. Maggie Frana was another key player, dropping a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds.

Knoxville Catholic smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive board total in three consecutive games.

Knoxville Catholic now has a winning record of 13-12. As for Chattanooga Christian, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 15-6.

Knoxville Catholic and Chattanooga Christian should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Tennessee Rankings. Knoxville Catholic (ranked 54th) will meet Girls Prep (ranked 262nd) at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Chattanooga Christian will challenge Walker Valley at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday up 205 places (45 vs. 250).
