After losing to the Middletown Blue Dragons the last time they met, the Enfield Eagles decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. Enfield strolled past Middletown with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 42-28. The win made it back-to-back wins for Enfield.
Zach Bonini was his usual excellent self, rushing for 203 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 9.7 yards per carry, and also throwing for 133 yards and a touchdown while completing 85.7% of his passes. Bonini really tore up the turf during one magnificent 75-yard run. Cam Carlander also helped out with an impressive 82 receiving yards.
When it comes to explaining why Middletown lost, one person who can't be blamed is Zy'Kie Askew. Despite the final result, he rushed for 212 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 10.1 yards per carry. The team also got some help courtesy of Josh Ferguson, who picked up 106 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Enfield's win bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Middletown, their defeat was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 4-5.
Enfield will head out on the road to face off against South Windsor at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. South Windsor will be hoping to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each game than the last. As for Middletown, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Berlin at 6:30 p.m.
