The Sayre Spartans will play host again and welcome the Paris Greyhounds, where kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Sayre had no problem doing just that on Friday. They took their matchup at home with ease, bagging a 48-8 win over Fairview. Sayre's offense checked out after the first half but had enough points banked to take the game anyway.
Luke Pennington was his usual excellent self, throwing for 184 yards and five touchdowns on only ten passes. The team also got some help courtesy of Ca'den Jones, who rushed for 54 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Paris waltzed into Friday's matchup with two straight wins but they left with three. They blew past Eminence 55-12 at home.
Sayre's win was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-0. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-12 Berea and 2-9 Fairview (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 42.1% over those games). As for Paris, their win bumped their record up to 10-1.
Sayre came out on top in a nail-biter against Paris when the teams last played back in October of 2022, sneaking past 15-12. Will Sayre repeat their success, or does Paris have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
