Merritt Island has been on the road for two straight, but on Friday they'll finally head home. They will take on The Eustis Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Friday, Merritt Island earned a 38-28 victory over Satellite. The win was just what Merritt Island needed coming off of a 33-13 loss in their prior game.
Among those leading the charge was Chris Kelly, who rushed for 196 yards and a touchdown. Kelly was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 58 yards. Ryder Varis was another key contributor, picking up 72 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Eustis had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 27.3 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They took their game on the road with ease, bagging a 28-0 victory over Mount Dora. Considering Eustis has won five games by more than 21 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Eustis' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Troy Saladin, who threw for 189 yards and two touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Another player making a difference was Tymir Gaines, who rushed for 119 yards and a touchdown.
Merritt Island's win bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Eustis, their win was their fifth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 6-3.
