The Van Wert Cougars were the 45-31 winner over the Spencerville Bearcats when they last played one another back in December of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Van Wert took a serious blow against Spencerville on Tuesday, falling 46-13. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Van Wert has scored all season.
Despite the defeat, Van Wert saw an underclassman step up: Amaya Dowdy scored nine points along with eight rebounds.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Van Wert struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Van Wert bumped their record down to 1-4 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 22.0 points per game. As for Spencerville, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Van Wert will take on Celina at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Spencerville, they will play host again and welcome Crestview, where tip off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Crestview has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 253 points over their last four matchups.
