2A - South recap Oct. 3, 2012
Alani Pututau of South Sevier ran for the longest rushing play in 2A - South this season against Grand County last week. Pututau scampered for 63 yards on the play and finished with 142 on the day as his team fell to the Red Devils.
San Juan was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after beating Kanab 40-10. The Broncos came in at 25 in the state poll after placing at number 27 last week.
Koi Cook was the best wideout in the league this week as Grand County topped South Sevier. Cook tallied two receptions for 44 yards. Layton Call helped Grand County's passing attack out by catching two balls for 42 yards.
Jacob Francis provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Dennis Wells's team defeated Weston Zabriskie's team. He completed six passes for 149 yards and also ran for 73 yards.
Trevor Jones put up the best numbers through the air as the Rams lost to the Red Devils. He finished with a total of 10 completions for 137 yards and one touchdown. Jones' favorite target this week was Garett Johnson, who caught one pass for 40 yards.
Grand County's Francis and Wesley Rodda have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Francis has thrown for 766 yards this season, while Rodda, a 5-foot-11 receiver, has eight catches for 260 yards. Joseph Holt from Enterprise leads the league in rushing with 651 yards.
The top two teams in 2A - South will face off this week when first place San Juan takes on second place Beaver. Last week, San Juan bested the Cowboys, while Beaver beat Parowan.
There should be lots of points scored when the Beavers and Monty Lee's team face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Beaver comes in having scored 210 this season, while the Broncos have scored 236. Steve Hutchings's team scored 43 points last week as it defeated the Rams.
