The Phillipsburg Stateliners had already won 13 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.8 points), and they went ahead and made it 14 on Saturday. They were the clear victor by a 64-38 margin over Somerville. Given Phillipsburg's advantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey basketball rankings (they are ranked ninth, while Somerville is ranked 165th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Matthew Scerbo jr. was his usual excellent self, scoring 23 points along with six assists and five rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Phillipsburg's points. Andrew Martin was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with eight rebounds and five assists.
Phillipsburg pushed their record up to 14-1 with that victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.7 points per game. As for Somerville, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-10.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Phillipsburg will take on West Morris Central at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Somerville, they will be playing at home against Warren Hills Regional at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
