Bailey Barnyak spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Carys McConnell was excellent, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one run and one RBI. Ke'Lani Chun also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Mapletown came up short against Bethlehem Center on Wednesday and fell 9-5.
Makenna Lotspeich was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. Another player making a difference was Marley Seward, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Carmichaels' victory was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-0. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average this season. As for Mapletown, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season.
Mapletown's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Carmichaels has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .470. It's a different story for Mapletown, though, as they've only averaged .336. Will they be able to contain Carmichaels' hitters?
Carmichaels took their victory against Mapletown in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 7-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mighty Mikes since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
