After flying high against the R-S Central Hilltoppers last Friday, the Owen Warhorses came back down to earth. Owen ended up on the wrong side of a rough 74-53 walloping at the hands of North Henderson on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Owen can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 593rd, while North Henderson is ranked 188th).
Despite the loss, Owen saw an underclassman step up: Asante Martin scored 25 points. Martin scored a full 47.2% of Owen's points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Eli Lewkowicz was another key contributor, scoring 8 points.
North Henderson can attribute much of their success to Bryson Rowe, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Zion McDaniel, who scored 10 points along with 5 assists and 5 rebounds.
Owen's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for North Henderson, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Owen will head out on the road to face off against Thomas Jefferson at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for North Henderson, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Enka at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Enka focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 on Wednesday.
