I Section I recap Oct. 30, 2012
Westview's Rene Corral recorded the longest rushing play in I Section I this season in his game against Valley Vista last week. Corral ran for 89 yards on the play and finished with 115 on the day as his team topped the Monsoon.
Cibola extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating San Luis, 45-0. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Raiders.
Shaiheim Aaron was the best wideout in the league this week as North lost to North Canyon. Aaron racked up four receptions for 113 yards. Fernando Garcia helped North's passing attack out by catching eight balls for 68 yards.
Lukas Treffers was the most productive running back in I Section I this week. He ran for 245 yards on 18 carries as St. Mary's fell to the Rattlers. Teammate Lester Smith added to the ground attack by rushing for 119 yards.
Lucky Arvizo put up the best numbers through the air as Cibola beat the Sidewinders. He finished with a total of nine completions for 185 yards and four touchdowns. Arvizo's favorite target this week was Jordan Mitchell, who caught two passes for 58 yards.
Kordell Provchy provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Westview bested Valley Vista. He completed six passes for 206 yards and one touchdown and also ran for 72 yards. Provchy's favorite target this week was Seivion Morris, who caught three passes for 80 yards.
5-foot-3 quarterback Frank Gomez of North is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1648. He has also thrown 10 touchdowns. On the ground, Lucky Arvizo's team's Mitchell has rushed for 1596 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Treffers. The St. Mary's star has 90 catches for 1076 yards.
Jeff Bowen's team's Morris is a mere 52 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season. Morris has rushed for 948 yards on 93 carries so far this year.
The Knights were able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after topping Josh SeKoch's team. Westview came in at 23 in the state poll after placing at number 36 last week.
