Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for The North Johnston Panthers, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They suffered a tough 41-21 loss at the hands of Northeastern on Friday. North Johnston was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 28-7.
When it comes to explaining why North Johnston lost, one person who can't be blamed is Cooper Gibson. Despite the final result, he rushed for 153 yards and two touchdowns. Tyrece Hicks got in on the action as well, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Devaughan Bell had a dynamite game for Northeastern, rushing for 188 yards and three touchdowns on only 13 carries. The team also got some help courtesy of Trevaris Jones, who threw for 180 yards and three touchdowns on only ten passes.
North Johnston has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season. As for Northeastern, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 11-0.
North Johnston does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Northeastern will be playing in front of their home fans against Holmes at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Holmes is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
