The Gibbs Gladiators scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Pinellas Park 73-25 on the road. Gibbs has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven contests by 24 points or more this season.
Leading Gibbs to victory were Lakeyia Thompson and Peyton Flournoy. Thompson scored 20 points, while Flournoy scored 27 points. That's the first time this season that Thompson scored 15 or more points. Zacoya Grant was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
When it comes to explaining why Pinellas Park lost, one person who can't be blamed is Ja?naija Roney. Despite the final result, she scored ten points.
Gibbs has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season. As for Pinellas Park, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-10.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gibbs won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Hollins at 8:00 p.m. on January 26th. Hollins will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 609th, while Gibbs is ranked 115th). As for Pinellas Park, they will head out on the road to face off against St. Petersburg at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully St. Petersburg focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 last Monday.
