The Early Longhorns will square off against the Eastland Mavericks at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Early is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.8 runs per game this season.
Last Tuesday, Early came up short against Peaster and fell 12-8. The Longhorns haven't had much luck with the Greyhounds recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Jamie Vassar was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI. Harper Thornberry was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double.
Meanwhile, Eastland made easy work of Tolar on Tuesday and carried off a 16-3 win. The Mavericks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 contests by six runs or more this season.
Eastland also got a great performance from Ana Cunningham as she tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits.
On the hitting side, Jayci Majors was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two triples, three runs, and three RBI. Those two triples gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Adyson Carroll, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3.
Eastland was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .520. They are 10-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Eastland is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 15 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.6 runs over those games. As for Early, their loss dropped their record down to 13-7.
Friday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Early has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .535. However, it's not like Eastland struggles in that department as they've averaged .439. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Early suffered a grim 12-4 defeat to Eastland in their previous matchup back in March. Will the Longhorns have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
