RALEIGH, N.C. -
Sanderson (Raleigh, N.C.) saw its 10-point lead dwindle to three, but still managed to hang on and upset
Apex (N.C.) 17-14 on Saturday.
After taking the lead on a
Brett Bollinger touchdown run in the second quarter, the Spartans were up 10-7 at the half.
The result came as a big surprise as the Cougars came in ranked No. 181 in the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings for North Carolina, while Sanderson was ranked No. 263.
The win was a nice bounce back for SHS, which lost to Green Hope last week, 20-16. The victory ended Sanderson's two-game losing streak.
Sanderson (1-2) goes up against Holly Springs in a non-conference game matchup next week, while Apex (1-2) locks horns with Riverside also in a non-conference game.
