Mapletown is on a three-game streak of home losses, and Monessen a ten-game streak of away losses dating back to last season. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Friday. The Mapletown Maples will be playing at home against the Monessen Greyhounds at 2:00 p.m. Mapletown has given up an average of 12.5 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Mapletown lost 16-1 to Jeannette on Tuesday.
Carson Vanata made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one home run.
Meanwhile, Monessen scored the most runs they've had this season on Monday, but it wasn't enough. They took a 12-8 hit to the loss column at the hands of Geibel Catholic. Surprisingly, this marked the sixth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor in this series.
Jakob Dell put in work no matter where he played. He tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. What's more, he gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had since back in May of 2025. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.
Dell wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Nathan Speicher, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That double was Speicher's first of the season. Christian Scherer was another, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Mapletown's defeat dropped their record down to 2-15. As for Monessen, their loss dropped their record down to 0-16.
Monessen's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. Mapletown has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Monessen, though, as they've been averaging only 3.9 strikeouts. Will Mapletown keep running through batters, or will the Greyhounds buck the trend?
Mapletown skirted past Monessen 6-5 in their previous meeting back in April. Will the Maples repeat their success, or do the Greyhounds have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
