The Broughton Capitals will take on the Enloe Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Broughton has given up an average of 7.2 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Things were looking good for Broughton after they put the first runs on the board on Thursday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They lost 13-3 to Cardinal Gibbons. That's two games in a row now that the Capitals have lost by exactly ten runs.
Avery Troxell made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. Daphne Hall was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Enloe entered their tilt with Sanderson on Tuesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They were the clear victors by a 26-9 margin over the Spartans. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matches by 15 runs or more this season.
Avery Modlin made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 16 batters over six innings while giving up six earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in five of her six plate appearances. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Enloe let Lilly Watson and Madison Young run wild. Watson went 4-for-5 with six RBI, four runs, and two stolen bases, while Young scored four runs and stole five bases while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave Young a new career-high in RBI (two). Another player making a difference was Jane Kiec, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.
Enloe was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .486. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive contests.
Enloe's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-4. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Broughton, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-6.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Broughton hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1.3 home runs per game. However, it's not like Enloe struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
