The Cherokee County Warriors managed to keep up with the Jacksonville Golden Eagles until halftime on Friday, but things quickly went downhill from there. Cherokee County was beaten by Jacksonville 71-37. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Cherokee County in their matchups with Jacksonville: they've now lost four in a row.
It was another big night for Devin Barksdale, who scored 25 points for Jacksonville. Barksdale is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaquan Ervin, who scored nine points along with five rebounds and five steals.
Cherokee County dropped their record down to 1-17 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road. As for Jacksonville, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 21-6 record this season.
Cherokee County will be staying on the road on Monday to face off against Hokes Bluff at 7:30 p.m. on January 29th. As for Jacksonville, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on Weaver at 7:30 p.m. on January 29th. Weaver will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Alabama Rankings (they are ranked 274th, while Jacksonville is ranked 49th).
