The Newman Greenies will square off against Thomas Jefferson at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Newman is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
Newman barely beat Episcopal the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Newman's pitcher stepped up to hand Episcopal a 10-0 shutout on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Greenies, who have now won five games by six runs or more so far this season.
Maryn Huber made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. Huber was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.
In other batting news, Felicity Drake was incredible, going 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. Alyse Dulitz was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one triple.
Meanwhile, Thomas Jefferson was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They lost 17-7 to Patrick Taylor Science & Tech Academy.
Kalli Cannon was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Micah Williams, who went 2-for-3 with one triple and one run.
The win got Newman back to even at 6-6. As for Thomas Jefferson, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-10.
Tuesday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Newman has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .498. However, it's not like Thomas Jefferson struggles in that department as they've averaged .436. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
