The Marlboro County Bulldogs are taking a road trip to square off against the Darlington Falcons at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Marlboro County has now lost ten straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since March 8.
On Tuesday, Marlboro County didn't have quite enough to beat Dillon and fell 6-5. That's two games in a row now that the Bulldogs have lost by just one run.
Abby Quick put in work no matter where she played. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. Furthermore, she didn't allow a single hit, the first time she has blanked an opponent since back in March. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run. That stolen base marked the first that she has snagged this season.
In other batting news, Ruthie Grooms was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with nine stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those stolen bases were her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Amir Bridges, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Darlington got the win against Wilson on Wednesday by a conclusive 15-5. Considering the Falcons have won nine games by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Marlboro County, Darlington also got a great game from a two-way player: Malaya Holt. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. Holt was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kayden Leonard, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Carly Gainey, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Darlington kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wilson only managed eight hits.
Darlington's record now sits at 15-9. As for Marlboro County, their loss dropped their record down to 3-15.
