Basketball Game Preview: Christian County Colonels vs. Owensboro Red Devils

The Christian County Colonels will square off against the Owensboro Red Devils at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Last Monday, Christian County was able to grind out a solid win over Allen County-Scottsville, taking the game 64-54.

Christian County's success was spearheaded by the efforts of NeVaeh Day, who went 9 for 18 on her way to 25 points in addition to seven boards and five steals, and Anaysia Bagwell, who went 9 of 20 on her way to 28 points. That's the most points Bagwell has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of DEbony Anderson, who posted five points and five rebounds.

Christian County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in three consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Owensboro). They enjoyed a cozy 68-50 victory over Green County on Saturday. The win was nothing new for the Red Devils as they're now sitting on three straight.

Owensboro's victory bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Christian County, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-7 record this season.

Christian County might still be hurting after the 53-30 loss they got from Owensboro when the teams last played back in December of 2022. Thankfully for Christian County, A'Lyrica Hughes (who almost dropped a double-double on 25 points and nine boards) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
